I'm an Individual
The world demands an ambitious global treaty to end the age of plastic
Is net zero enough for the materials production sector?
by Zero Waste Europe When considering the urgency of reducing GHG emissions there is a possibility that, despite the aims of the net zero pathways, the cumulative carbon emissions budget will be exceeded. This is due to the risks associated with deploying unproven technologies in some sectors – namely, plastics, aluminium, iron & steel, cement & concrete. This report by Zero Waste Europe and Eunomia allocated a risk factor associated with each intervention and quantified how this influences the likelihood of overshooting the remaining carbon budget. It also attempted to determine whether the overshoot can be reduced by accelerating the adoption model deployed for technological interventions
Plastic Treaty – transparency requirement for chemicals constituents in plastic is a must
by HEJSupport, SSNC, groundWorkSA Despite the importance of addressing chemical contamination caused by plastic, information about chemicals in plastic is not disclosed. Lack of transparency for the chemical composition of plastics undermines plastic management to reduce pollution. In this publication, HEJSupport, SSNC and groundWorkSA discuss the urgency of chemical information transparency in plastics and ways to address it within and outside the value chain and throughout the plastic lifecycle. We argue that disclosing chemical constituents in plastic contributes to plastic pollution reduction, resource efficiency via toxic-free circular economy and promotes the public right to know.
by IPEN IPEN believes that an understanding of the following three principles will be foundational for a Plastics Treaty that addresses the human health and climate threats from plastics throughout their lifecycle, and for promoting alternatives that truly meet the needs of a circular economy.
For all their faults, which some of you have pointed out, my YouTube videos contain scientific knowledge that urgently needs to be shared (https://www.youtube.com/onnestpasdesautruches). I am perfectly aware of their potentially anxiety-provoking nature. If you don`t have the courage or the arguments, it`s obviously not a subject you want to discuss at family dinners or with friends at the end of this festive year. So, behind the scenes, you can still give this YouTube channel and my awareness-raising work a helping hand, so that 2025 can be a year of global awareness. That`s my hope. #SimpleAndLucid
I wish all those who follow me (or not) and help me (or not) a very happy end to 2024 and an even happier start to 2025, which could be, thanks to you, the year of global awareness of the seriousness of this pollution, towards a change in our habits.
I also hope that you will all take the psychological impact of this realisation as the founding act of a new, healthier way of life, for all of us, for nature, and for all future generations of living organisms on Earth.
I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you very much and see you in 2025 ✊!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Hoy citando a #Gabo en la Capilla Sixtina de los Derechos Humanos,: We know enough to act on one of the greatest threats to humanity: Plastics. Inaction is not an option. As Gabriel Garcia Marquez once said, “wisdom comes to us when it can no longer do any good.” Let’s not wait until it’s too late. #PlasticsTreaty #100yearsofsolitude

The fifth round of negotiations did not deliver the #PlasticsTreaty the outside world was expecting. However, a lot did happen during that busy week in Busan...
⌚ #INC5 negotiations started off slow, and soon went behind closed doors - a move not in-keeping with the spirit of transparency and inclusion we’d expect to see.
🪧 Civil society groups and indigenous leaders raised the call for an inclusive process and a bold treaty, through petitions, press releases and demonstrations.
🏝️ We co-hosted an event with The Gambia. This created a vital space for small coastal countries and island states to talk about their experiences, expertise and needs from a successful treaty to end #plasticpollution.
📈 Towards the end of the week, momentum was building on key issues, with large groups of countries uniting behind calls for strong production measures and a robust financing mechanism.
📅 The week ended without a treaty, but with growing ambition from the majority of states. Negotiators will now reconvene in 2025 to try to come to agreement.
❓ So what’s next?
A strong treaty reached next year is better than a week treaty pushed through now. But INC-5.2 cannot be a repeat of Busan.
Countries must begin the new year ready to agree a bold treaty that covers the full lifecycle of plastics and facilitates a just transition to a healthy circular economy. 🌊

Did you know that 99% of plastic is derived from fossil fuels?
So it`s no surprise that during the recent #PlasticsTreaty negotiations, fossil fuel nations blocked efforts to limit plastic production.
Our reliance on plastics is driving demand for petrochemicals, with devastating climate consequences. Plastic production and disposal generate three times more greenhouse gas emissions than aviation.
A #PlasticsTreaty is critical - not just to curb pollution, but to protect our climate.

Every stage of plastics life cycle is a health threat to humans. Communities are exposed to pollutants during oil extraction. Workers inhale toxic gasses during manufacturing. Consumers ingest and absorb plastics toxins!

It’s simple to make a huge difference in the reduction of single use plastic from supermarkets. Our patented systems can dispense the thickest of products anything from cooking oils to ketchup etc. The manufacturers of these products could generate more income also by reducing the trucking to supermarkets in the traditional plastic packaging. We continue our uphill battle! We have requested MiamiDade County assist us in getting a meeting with publix. #reuse #refillnotlandfill #plasticstreaty #plasticfree #landfill #healthylifestyle
